Strategies to Support Sustainable Health Services in the Bowen Basin

Project timeline: July 2012 - March 2013

Brief description:

The BBLLG commissioned Health Workforce Queensland and Kristine Battye Consulting to undertake a study to:

  • Identify issues impacting on access to sustainable health services in the Bowen Basin region for the resident and non-resident population
  • Provide strategic advice to the Bowen BBLLG to enable the members to participate and contribute to health service planning at the local, regional and state level.

  • A review of relevant planning documentation
  • An online survey of health service organisations to map existing services and identify service and system issues impacting on service delivery
  • Extensive face to face consultation across the Bowen Basin including local government, public, private and nongovernment health and community service organisations, health providers and community groups.
  • Synthesis of information to develop a briefing paper for discussion with the BBLLG
  • Development of final report: The report identified strategies members of the BBLLG could use to support health service development in the region as well as providing information and key strategies to enable their informed participation in strategic planning for sustainable health services in conjunction with the Medicare Local health and hospital services.
